  • History of the Harley Davidson logo

Posted on April 4, 2016 7:08 am by Stevie Wayne Comment

As a web designer I like the histories of companies and products I am passionate about. It helps me with the whole psychological aspect and understanding of what I’m conveying to my audience. I found this article to be one of the better articles pertaining to the Bar and Shield of Harley Davidson. This logo was around long before the use of computers so it’s a hand drawn logo including the font, from top to bottom. Even though a modified Compacts font comes close to the font used in the lettering it’s not 100%. I have recreated this font several times and each time it’s a pleasure to wonder what the designer was thinking and how many times he had dabbled it onto paper. Did he have any idea what he was starting? Thank God he didn’t give up and kept pursuing his dream. One of the, if not the best motorcycle ever created. That’s my opinion and it sticks.

The original Harley Davidson logo drafted and used in 1901.
